So, the whole ribs thing sort of put me out of the game...all the games...Now I'm back to about 95% and I feel good. Based upon how long my ribs have been sore, I'm diagnosing at least one actual break, possibly two. I'm sure I also had some serious injury to my pectoral muscle. Maybe a tear even. It still bothers me a little as well. Needless to say, my accomplished rugby career is over.
I've been in an anti-computer phase. I'm sure I'll get back into the swing of it over the winter months. HIBERNATION. And, time to dust off that spinning bike in the basement.
What have I been doing? Well, since that last post I've had one trip to Ohio/MI and four "trips".
"Trips":
- Successful but painful and really SLOW S. Arapaho climb with two ladies on 10-18-05.
- Twiddle around for an easy but scenic hike up near Winter Park at Columbine Lake, since one of the two ladies was not up to the challenge of Caribou Pass on the Divide.
- Successful winter climb of Quandary Peak on 11-23 with father and daughter from N. Dakota. Father made it, daughter, who lives in S. Denver, crapped out at about 13,000 ft. Quandary is a nice winter climb for winter climb beginners, which they were. I actually got an authentic "You betcha" out of the dad. Made my day, not to mention the $150 tip they gave me.
- Successful winter climb of Mt. Sherman on 11-26 with my Cuz from Buffalo who visited for Thanksgiving from Utah U. Mt. Sherman is a total piece of turd due to mining mutilation. The summit ridge was pretty sweet though...We probably should have been roped up.
That drop off was pretty nasty if you made a mistake. Maybe 1,000 vert of 55-60 degree slope for you to bounce down...I'll admit, it made me a bit nervous because it was VERY windy and gusts would take you by surprise coming over the ridge once in a while. Don't I look sexy in all my winter gear?! WHOO-EE! Isn't there some sort of mountaineering porn site this could go on?! ha ha! ANyhoo, it was really fun in spite of the crappy mountain and very wintery conditions, since I needed to check it off the list and it was Alex's first 14er.
Our trip home was nice. We got to see almost everyone in the family. It's so hard to cram it all in when you're there. CJ and all of his grandparents really hit it off and it was sad to leave them. It actually had me wondering if it's worth it to live so far away...
So other than that, I've discovered the joy of www.Summitpost.org. I'm addicted. It's a site where people post all their climbs, routes, advice, mountain by mountain. The members actually create and maintain the pages on individual mountains. You also get points for submissions. I only have like 2 points because I submitted a picture of the big butt-slide route down Audubon from last spring. I could have a ton of points, but I need to get organized. My sign in name on it is RMdaytripsgrl if you want to check it out. My profile is not very snazzy yet, but I'll get it there.
It's also cool because you can get on the message board and get instant info about conditions, routes, gear, etc., from all the freaks that sit on it all day. You can also just say "hey, who wants to climb ______ tomorrow?" and you find yourself a partner. That's good to know, since I want to do more winter climbing this year, but don't like going it alone.
I'm currently really mad because I can't find our old (pre-CJ) 14er summit log for me to input all my mountains, routes, dates for my profile. I guess I can make it up somewhat if I don't find it, but it makes me really pissed all the same. A lot of the pictures I have are from a film camera with no date stamp (never figured that out...duh...) so even if I did happen to identify the mountain I was on, I have no date. CRAP!
I'm happy to have a break for a few weeks. No clients to worry about. I need to do some normal housewife things like clean, organize, and do laundry. This place is a dump.
I hope to be posting a bit more regularly from here out...Talk to you soon!
